We've an exceptional variety of teachers and 9 bag projects for you to choose from on our It's in the Bag Cruise!  You may choose one class for each of 3 sessions classes will be offered.  Class request forms will be sent to those who have registered for the cruise in November, 2019.  Don't delay in registering, this cruise will sell out quickly - we have had many requests for this itinerary.

Deb Roberts




Stevii has been involved with quiltmaking since 1975 and has been a juror and judge for competitions throughout the U.S.  She has been the judging coordinator for Road to California since 2002.  Stevii is a past President of the California Heritage Quilt Project, has served as President of Quilt San Diego/Visions and on the boards of several quilt guilds.  Her quilts have been published in numerous books and magazines as well as having been exhibited both nationally and internationally.

The Retreat Bag


Cute as cute can be, this is a perfect bag to store a hand sewing project, cosmetics or anything your heart desires. Don’t be scared of the zipper. We have a magic spell to beat back that zippy monster.


$5 kit fee includes pattern and wire frame for the top of the bag

Fat Quarter Romp, purse edition


This is your kick back and take it easy class which proves that purses can be super easy. In this class we will turn 10 fat quarters (and no zippers!) into three simple and useful purses.


No kit fee.


Supply list:


10 fat quarters

  • 6 for the large “haul a quilt to a meeting” tote

  • 2 for the Japanese knotted purse. (This purse can be reversible.)

  • 2 for the tulip bag.


1 - 18” x 20” (or another fat quarter) lining fabric for large tote. Using a directional print?  Bring a lining piece 18” x 22”

2 - 2 ½” x 40” strips for large tote handles


22” elastic, 1” in width


Thread to match. Aurifil, Mettler or Gutterman threads recommended


Small scissors (or thread snips), seam ripper, straight pins (or Clover Clips), paper and pencil for note taking.





Vinyl mesh bags


Take it to the beach and the sand falls out, take it to the farmers market and your veggies can breathe, take it anywhere and people will shout, “You and your bag are so cute!” The tote bag can hold a lot and is light weight. The small zipper pouch is perfect for storing charging cords, pencils, or your jewels! The large fabric band on the tote will be the fruit bottom ladies fabric or another beachy type fabric.


Kit fee $20. Includes all fabrics, a zipper and the vinyl mesh

From a young age Nikki Foley has had a love of colour and design. Studying graphic design in college, Nikki honed her design skills but held uncertainty for her career path.  Shortly after starting a young family, Nikki returned to higher education on a part-time basis. Now, mother to six boys, Nikki is proficient with degrees and certificates in A-level art, interior design, adult teaching, and City & Guilds patchwork and quilting. Nikki is a firm believer in continued education and a few years ago studied judicial competency accredited through the Quilters Guild of the British Isles.


Drawn to fabric and beautiful colours, Nikki found her love for patchwork 25 years ago with English paper piecing.  Excelling in a variety of techniques, Nikki cultivated her patchwork abilities and talent into professional designs and patterns.  NikkI has exhibited her work all over the world in exhibitions.


Fifteen years ago, Nikki opened her own patchwork shop, The Sewing Shed, where new friends, patterns and interests are ever evolving.  From its picturesque location on the road to Dingle, Nikki’s shop is a busy hub of patchwork.  Beyond teaching and selling, Nikki organises exhibitions, hosts tour groups and leads local quilting bees.


Recently, her published work can be found in a variety of magazines as Nikki is a regular contributor to magazines and also has an ever growing collection of her own books and patterns.

JAN SMITH - North Carolina  

Jan Smith is a sewing and quilting instructor from North Carolina. When she was ten years old, she started sewing with her mother and knew it would be a passion of hers for life. A graduate of Appalachian State University with a BS degree in clothing and textiles, Jan has worked as a buyer and merchandiser for retail clothing and fabric stores and operated her own business doing clothing design and custom nurseries. For the past ten years, she has been an instructor at Sew Much Fun in Lowell, NC focusing on clubs and embroidery machine mastery. Jan’s passions are   teaching others her favorite craft, meeting new friends and travel. Charming Tote


This is a fun and easy tote. It’s is so much fun to see how they all come together with everyone’s choice of fabrics. Great tote for everyday or to carry supplies to class in. Looks great in batiks or fun prints.


Pattern and magnetic closure will be supplied at no additional cost.

  • 20 five inch squares or bring a charm pack if you want to choose in class

  • 1 yd fabric for small accent band, handles and lining

  • 1/3 yd fabric for top band and inside pockets (if you like you can make inside pkts from extra charm squares)

  • Fusible fleece (pellon 987 or similar) 1 pc 31x19 in and 2 pcs 1in x 26in

  • Décor Bond(pellon 809) 1 pc 31x19 in and 2 pcs 6x11

Zippy Strippy Pouches

Really cute quilt as you go pouches. Intimidated by zippers? This is quick and easy. Perfect for gifts if you can part with them. You can embellish them or leave them plain. We will make the large and small version but may have time to make all three if you like.

Supplies for large and small pouches

  • Five 2 ½ inch strips

  • ½ yd lining

  • Fusible Fleece 2 pcs 6 ¾ x9 ¼ pieces for Small

  • 2 pcs 9 ¼ x 13 ¼ for Large

  • (The medium takes 2 10 ¾ x 8 ¾)

  • 14 or more buttons if you choose to embellish

  • 2 14in polyester zippers I like to use contrasting zipper

  • Straight pins

  •  Scissors

  • Rotary cutter

  • Ruler and small mat

  • Hand sewing needle if embellishing

  • Seam ripper (just in case!)

  • Atkinson Designs Zippy Strippy pattern (I will provide these for purchase)
