2025 Caribbean Cruise Classes

We are shaking things up in the quilt cruise world!

In addition to providing unparalleled workshops, offering our guests the ability to sew on what they wish during cruising time has been an amazing success on our annual Hawaii Quilt Bee at Sea.

The first quilt cruise company to offer this choice, now in the Caribbean – you may choose how you cruise by signing up for classes or open sewing time.  Having a dedicated room just for those who want to sew as they wish opens up a whole new sea of possibilities.  Come relax and sew your days away during our incredible Caribbean quilt cruise getaway.

Class requests may be made directly when you book your cruise. Don’t delay in registering, this cruise will sell out quickly – we have had many requests for this itinerary.

There is a minimum number of participants for each class just as there is a maximum number of students we can take in a class. We are allowing for social distancing in the classrooms so our maximum number is not what we have had in the past.    The machine provider asks that NO MACHINE QUILTING be done on the provided machines.

Don’t despair, you may take as many or as few classes as you like, one per day – OR you may sew in our dedicated sewing room, the choice will be yours.  Your only limitation will be class or the number of open sewing # of seats (the number of students per class). Please understand, all class requests are sent out at the same time, we cannot hold classes for anyone prior to that date.

See you in Fort Lauderdale!  s

Make any of Laura Heine's "TEENY TINY" collage patterns, 16"x20"

Laura Heine Quilt Collage of your choice

CHOOSE ANY PATTERN YOU WISH!!   Patterns designed by Laura Heine at www.fiberworks-heine.com

Three options, this 1 day workshop will be offered THREE TIMES during our cruise.

Jo Lynn O’Neil is a certified Laura Heine instructor.  She will be teaching collage classes as follows:

We are offering the collage workshop three times during our cruise.  It can be a different project on any of those days as you choose what pattern/kit you’d like to make.

During our time together, you will learn Laura Heine’s collage technique with all the in’s and out’s and special methods Laura recommends.

We will be making a Collage quilt using Teeny Tiny patterns by Laura Heine. Each pattern makes a quilt approximately 16”x20”. You can use one of the patterns pictured here or choose any of Laura’s Teeny Tiny pattern.  You may see all of the patterns by going to  www.fiberworks-heine.com, then searching for Teeny Tiny.  You will pull up both kits and patterns.  There are many to choose from.

As the techniques are the same, you may choose from any of the Teeny Tiny quilt patterns

Come join us for a fun no stress class.  You will have some homework as there are limited irons available on the cruise ship.

I also encourage you to purchase a kit.  In the long run it will be less expensive and less weight for your luggage.  However, if you have fabric in your stash that you would like to use that is fine.  The pattern is not included in the kit and you must purchase it separately.

** Please do not bring one of the larger patterns, we don’t have room on our tables to accommodate these.

Your homework is to have all of your fabrics fused before you get to class.  You must do this!

Supplies:

  • Steam a Seam 2 fusible (not lite)
  • Applique Pressing Sheet
  • Black Sharpie pen and a pencil
  • Pattern Ease- see pattern for amount
  • Sharp fabric scissors—I love Karen Kay Buckley’s perfect scissors, the (blue handle) works especially well for this
  • Pins
  • Tweezers-optional
  • Background fabric-again check your pattern.

Please contact me if you have questions.

Workshops with Peggy Gelbrich

Ricochet

Ricochet
The Ricochet quilt offers many new techniques. In creating the block we will do freezer paper foundation piecing. With this technique you will never sew through the paper. Your pattern is reusable and there is never paper to tear away from the seams. In addition, you will learn curved piecing. This quilt is challenging enough for an advanced quilter but very doable for a beginner.

An accident in piecing created this ricochet
pattern. Create this pattern or bring scraps to
make your own creation. *
Fabric Requirements:

Dark – Foundation Piecing and Border- 3 yards
Sub-cut:

Sixteen 3” strips, width of fabric
Eight 4” squares
Eight 5” squares

The remainder is for border and binding.

Light – Foundation Piecing – 1½ yards
Sub-cut:

Sixteen 3” strips width of fabric
Eight 4” squares

Accent – Piecing and border – ½ yard,
Sub-cut: Eight 5” squares
*Scrappy version uses the 3”
wide strips for foundation
piecing. The 5” square is the
accent and the 4” square
is the bottom of the fan
block. The block finishes at
9”.
Supplies:
____ Basic Sewing/Quilting Supplies
____ Freezer Paper
____ Stapler and Staple remover
____ Add-a-quarter Ruler
____ Creative Grid Circle Savvy Ruler #CGRSAV1 (I will bring several to use during class.)
____ Pins – Regular quilting pins. Clover Double Pins helpful

____ Rotary Cutting Rulers

____12½” square ruler

Crossed Kayaks

Crossed Kayaks
In Crossed Kayaks you will use freezer paper foundation piecing to create the angle and perfect points of the block. In creating the Crossed Kayak block we will do freezer paper foundation piecing. Using freezer paper, you will never sew through the paper. Your pattern is reusable and there is never paper to tear away from the seams. This is good for all quilting levels.

Fabric Requirements
___ Background – 2¼ yards lights for block construction
___ Main – 3 yard of medium or dark fabrics for block construction and border
___ Accent – 1½ yards accent color for canoes, sashing and inner border

Supplies:
____ Freezer paper – Six – 6” squares

Night Lights

Night Lights

Night Lights is good for all levels of quilters, especially beginners. You will learn a quick technique of making a nine-patch. Mix all the fabric to make a scrappy block set diagonally into your background. This zigzag setting is a fun way to display blocks and much easier than it looks.

65”x78”, 9” block

This is a great beginner quilt with a quick
method of making a 9-patch block which
joins to become a 36-patch block. It can be
totally scrappy but would also be fun with two
high contrasting fabrics.
Twenty-seven 9” finished blocks.
Fabric Requirements:
Variety of light and medium fabrics – Total of 3
yards cut into 108 – 6” squares.
Dark Background – 3½ yards

HOMEWORK!

Cut 11 squares, 14”x14”, sub-cut two cuts, corner to corner in an “X” creating 44 side setting
triangles with the straight of grain on the long side.

Cut 10 squares, 7¼”, sub-cut with one cut diagonally, equaling 20 corner triangles, with the
straight of grain on the corners.

Cut six rectangles, 13¼”x6-7/8. These rectangles are for the top and bottom of rows 1, 3, and 5.

Binding- Included in background fabric
