Day 1 - Tuesday, April 27, 2010:  Relax and enjoy our overnight flight to Bali.  Crossing the international dateline and stopping first in Hong Kong, we arrive in Bali on Wednesday.  Two meals will be served on our overnight journey. D, B

Day 2 Wednesday, April 28: Upon our arrival in Bali we will be met by our coach and guide for transfer to our hotel - the incredible Nusa Dua Beach Resort and Spa.   This evening we will meet our guide at a special welcome dinner and orientation to our time in Bali.  Our guide has been especially selected for our group based upon his expertise on Balinese culture, textile history and industry. B, D

Day 3 Thursday, April 29: After enjoying a full breakfast at the hotel, we will gather together and depart on a tour to the town of Tohpati and it's Batik Factory. Here we will see Batik dyers, weavers and painters and stop for a lecture and demonstration to learn how Batik is made.   Following lunch prepared just for us at a local restaurant we will visit the famous art villages of Celuk where we will spend time perusing the many silver manufacturer storehouses, especially interesting for those who love those silver beads to use as embellishments. The remainder of the day and evening are free.   B, L

Day 4 -  Friday, April 30: Today we will spend with Balinese Royalty.   Dedicated to the preservation of the age-old textile art of Batik and the Balinese cultural traditions, our host today,  has prepared a workshop for us that will include the preparation of Indigo and Morinda dye vats and  the opportunity to create our own wax resist and hand dyed batik fabrics  B, L.

Day 5 Saturday, May 1:  Today we will visit the Kamasan Village and Art Center and Klungkung, which has a market known for arts and crafts. Following lunch, we will visit the weaving community of Sideman where we will have the opportunity to visit with those who make the Songket Textiles.  B, L

Day 6 Sunday, May 2: Today is a free day.  B

Day 7- Monday, May 3: Today, we will transfer to Ubud for the remainder of our trip.  Following a morning in Denpasar exploring their colorful markets and fabric shop row, we will go as a group to the Thread's of Life facility for a lecture on their natural dyeing processes held in a garden where they harvest their own dye goods. Once we have checked into our fabulous 5 star hotel, the Komaneka Bisma, the remainder of the day is at leisure. Seemingly in the middle of a tropical forest, you will want to wander through the hotel's incredible property, down to the riverside wedding chapel and beyond, or take a dip in their incredible infinity pool. B

Day 8 Tuesday, May 4: Following an incredible breakfast we will head to Bali's most photographed spot, the Tanah Lot Temple, which is on the coast.  We will take some time here to enjoy the area's culture and scenery.  We will then enjoy a scenic drive through the countryside to the Ulun Danu Temple, stopping on our way at the local fruit and spice markets. Our day together will close with a stop at the famous Ubud Monkey Forest for a close up at the livelihood of some of the important creatures on the island.  After a full day we will be ready for some down time at our beautiful 5 star resort.  B, L.

Day 9 Wednesday, May 5: This morning we will visit the Hoffman Batik Factory.  As the first quilt related tour company to open the doors to a full scale batik fabric production operation on the Island of Bali, I am both blessed and honored to once again have been offered an exclusive invitation for our group to witness the amazing work at the Hoffman factory. The Hoffman factory is not open to group tours, so we are in for a unique treat.  This will be a full morning with much of the time spent outdoors where the fabrics are printed, dyed and dried.   Our hosts hold nothing back in showing us the age old processes necessary to make a Hoffman Batik what it is best known for, incomparable beauty.  Not one machine is used in the process - it is all hand done.  Not only will you walk away with a different appreciation for batiks, but when you learn more about little known Hoffman traditions, you will walk away having more appreciation for their company. Before heading back to our hotel, we will have lunch at a lovely ocean-side restaurant. B, L

Day 10 -  Today is a day of leisure, and our last opportunity to run into town to pick up those last minute gifts and surely more Batiks!!!   Tonight we will gather for a farewell dinner and cultural dance show.  B, D

Day 11 -  Sadly all good things must come to an end and today we will find ourselves departing Bali, each with a deeper understanding of Indonesian culture and textile knowledge....it may also be that we will be leaving with many incredible memories and fabrics which will go together into a beautiful quilt - Bali style.
