In 2017, the
International Quilt Festival in Houston promises to be bigger and better
than ever! We will be joining the fun for a special "QUILT WEEK" in
Houston for this one of a kind event.
It has been said that visiting
the Houston International Quilt Festival is like visiting an art
museum. Each year, quilters from around the world have the opportunity to
display their quilts and the final juried pieces are both unique and
beautiful. We have added this exceptional tour at the request of our international friends in Canada,
Europe, Africa, New Zealand, Australia. the United
Kingdom, and others; but we are happy for anyone to join us, no matter where you

Hilton America's Houston, making it easy and quick for you to go to
the show, attend classes and participate in all of the Quilts Inc. and IQA
activities without the need of transportation or the hassle of waiting for
a show shuttle. Prior to the show we
will enjoy the Texas quilt museum, Quilter's Emporium (known as the best
quilt shop in Texas), a special tour of the seaside town of
Galveston including a mansion in their historic district, as well as
additional activities. You may
also attend the Gala grand opening night of the show and you will have
plenty of free time to participate
of the many workshops and lectures offered.
October 30, 2017 - Arrive Houston: Self-transfer from
the airport to the Hilton America’s Houston Hotel adjacent to the George
Brown Convention Center. This evening we will gather
in the lobby of our hotel for a short walk to where we will enjoy an authentic TEX-MEX
welcome dinner together.
October 31, 2017 –
Texas Quilt Museum and Quilter's Emporium Quilt Shop. This morning we
are off for a morning visit at the Texas Quilt Museum, here will will have
time to enjoy their current exhibit and explore the Texas town of La
Grange. Following lunch on our own, we will depart for one of Texas'
finest quilt shops, the Quilter's Emporium. Lots of surprises are in
After returning to
the hotel the remainder of the day and evening are free for you to explore
the downtown Houston area on your own. B
November 1 – Quilter's Tour of
morning we will gather for a short ride to Galveston. During our
time here we will enjoy a tour of Galveston's historic mansion area which
will include a mansion tour in the Palace District. You will also be able
to wander the famous Galveston Strand
and enjoy the ambience of this historic area before we return to
Houston, enjoying some quilt shop hopping on the way. We've some fun
surprises planned along our way as we return to Houston.
As your evening is
free, you may wish to attend the special event announcing the IQA show winners
at the convention center. B
11/5 – Quilt Festival
November 1 you will be free to participate in Festival classes and workshops.
However, this evening, we will have priority tickets to the 7 PM Gala
Opening of the show. It is the best time to see the show and enjoy
the vendors as the crowds are always light on opening night.
November 2-5: While it will be easy
to get caught up among the multitude of vendors or engaged in looking
at the amazing quilts that are juried into this show, you might also wish
to consider the multitude of other activities that make up the quilt festival.
Take a close look at the workshops offered and/or the various
speakers and activities. This is a wonderful opportunity to take a class with one or
more world class teachers. And even if you don’t want to spend a day in
a workshop, you can hear some of the teachers at lunchtime or evening
lectures. Check the festival brochure for these opportunities.
November 5: Our final day in Houston, we will
meet for breakfast together before your check out from the hotel and transfer to the airport.
You may store your luggage at the hotel if you wish to participate in last
minute shopping or workshops.

festival schedule. There is a slight charge for the mailed catalog,
however, class catalogs are posted online at the same time the printed
catalog is released. Note: The
Festival brochure with the list
of classes will not be available until mid-July, 2017. After this
time class information will be available at the quilts.com website.
