This year, the
International Quilt Festival in Houston celebrates 40 years and we'll be
celebrating big time with our quilters who join us for this adventure. It's been said that visiting
the Houston International Quilt Festival is like visiting an art
museum. Each year, quilters from around the world have the opportunity to
display their quilts and the final juried products are both unique and
beautiful. We have added this exceptional tour at the request of our international friends in Canada,
Europe, Africa, New Zealand, Australia. the United
Kingdom, and others; but we are happy for anyone to join us, no matter where you

activities without the need of transportation or the hassle of waiting for
a pre-arranged coach. Prior to the show we
will enjoy the best little chocolate tour in Texas, a special tour of the
seaside town of Galveston, authentic Texas barbecue, real Tex-Mex cuisine, quilt shops and more. We will
also attend the Gala grand opening night of the show where you may participate
of the many workshops and lectures.
10/26/14 - Arrive Houston: Self-transfer from
the airport to the Hilton America’s Houston Hotel adjacent to the George
Brown Convention Center. Super Shuttle rides ($24) can be arranged on
line in advance of your landing or at the airport. Taxis charge a flat
rate of around $55 for the ride. If you get in early, it’s only a short walk to
Houston’s downtown shopping area. This evening we will gather
in the lobby of our hotel for a short walk to the Guadalajara del Centro restaurant in downtown. Here we will enjoy an authentic TEX-MEX
welcome dinner together.
10/27/14 – Chocolate Tour, Barbeque Lunch,
and Quilt Shop Hop: This morning, we will
gather in the lobby for a morning tour of Houston’s best chocolate
factories and outlets. Enjoy tasting some of these treats as you build a
stash to enjoy throughout the week. But… be sure save room for our
authentic Texas BBQ lunch.
Lunch at Goode’s
– We’ll be enjoy authentic Texas BBQ and Texan hospitality at one of Houston’s institutions,
Goode's Barbeque. Lunch will include mesquite barbequed meats,
jalapeño cheese bread and other local
Before returning to the hotel, we will have our very own Houston Quilt Shop Hop!
After returning to
the hotel the remainder of the day and evening are free for you to explore
the downtown Houston area on your own.
Quilter's Tour of Galveston
This morning we
will gather for a coach ride to Galveston. During our time here we
will enjoy a local tour and visit Galveston's favorite quilt shop, Quilts
by the Bay. You will be able to have free time to wander the famous Strand
area and enjoy the ambience of this historic town before we return to
As your evening is
free, you may wish to attend the special event announcing the show winners
at the convention center.
October 29 to November
2 – Quilt Festival
October 29 -, you
will be free to participate in Festival classes and workshops.
However, this evening, we will have priority tickets to the Gala Opening
of the show. It is the best time to see the show and enjoy the
vendors as the crowds are always light on opening night.
October 30-November 2: While it will be easy
to get caught up among the multitude of vendors or engaged in looking
at the amazing quilts that are juried into this show, you might also wish
to consider the multitude of other activities that make up the festival.
Take a close look at the workshops offered and/or the various
speakers. This is a wonderful opportunity to take a class with one or
more world class teachers. And even if you don’t want to spend a day in
class, you can hear some of the teachers at lunchtime or evening
lectures. Check the festival brochure for these opportunities.
November 2: Our final day in Houston, we will
meet for breakfast together before your check out from the Hotel and transfer to the airport.
You may store your luggage at the hotel if you wish to participate in last
minute shopping or workshops.
