Houston Festival - It's What Quilting is All About

Sorry - Sold out.  I am sorry we missed you.

"I want to thank you for the International Quilt Festival tour to Houston. We had such a terrific time and met some really great ladies/new friends who participated in our tour.  Lydia and I would love to be included in the same tour next year.  Since we've been home, I have been talking with other people in our quilt guild about our trip and some of them have also expressed a desire to participate in the tour next year."  2013 Houston Traveler

This year, the International Quilt Festival in Houston celebrates 40 years and we'll be celebrating big time with our quilters who join us for this adventure.  It's been said that visiting the Houston International Quilt Festival is like visiting an art museum. Each year, quilters from around the world have the opportunity to display their quilts and the final juried products are both unique and beautiful.  We have added this exceptional tour at the request of our international friends in Canada, Europe, Africa, New Zealand, Australia. the United Kingdom, and others; but we are happy for anyone to join us, no matter where you live.

Our hotel rooms are at the beautiful and convenient convention center hotel, the Hilton America's Houston, making it easy and quick for you to go to the show, attend classes and participate in all of the Quilts Inc. activities without the need of transportation or the hassle of waiting for a pre-arranged coach.  Prior to the show we will enjoy the best little chocolate tour in Texas, a special tour of the seaside town of Galveston, authentic Texas barbecue, real Tex-Mex cuisine, quilt shops and more.  We will also attend the Gala grand opening night of the show where you may participate in one of the many  workshops and lectures.

10/26/14 - Arrive Houston: Self-transfer from the airport to the Hilton America’s Houston Hotel adjacent to the George Brown Convention Center.  Super Shuttle rides ($24) can be arranged on line in advance of your landing or at the airport.  Taxis charge a flat rate of around $55 for the ride.  If you get in early, it’s only a short walk to Houston’s downtown shopping area.   This evening we will gather in the lobby of our hotel for a short walk to the Guadalajara del Centro restaurant in downtown.  Here we will enjoy an authentic TEX-MEX welcome dinner together.

10/27/14Chocolate Tour, Barbeque Lunch, and Quilt Shop Hop:  This morning, we will gather in the lobby for a morning tour of Houston’s best chocolate factories and outlets.  Enjoy tasting some of these treats as you build a stash to enjoy throughout the week.  But… be sure save room for our authentic Texas BBQ lunch.

Lunch at Goode’s – We’ll be enjoy authentic Texas BBQ and Texan hospitality at one of Houston’s institutions, Goode's Barbeque.  Lunch will include mesquite barbequed meats, jalapeño cheese bread and other local favorites.

Before returning to the hotel, we will have our very own Houston Quilt Shop Hop!

After returning to the hotel the remainder of the day and evening are free for you to explore the downtown Houston area on your own.

10/28/14 – Quilter's Tour of Galveston

This morning we will gather for a coach ride to Galveston.  During our time here we will enjoy a local tour and visit Galveston's favorite quilt shop, Quilts by the Bay. You will be able to have free time to wander the famous Strand area and enjoy the ambience of this historic town before we return to Houston.

As your evening is free, you may wish to attend the special event announcing the show winners at the convention center.

October 29 to November 2 – Quilt Festival

October 29 -, you will be free to participate in Festival classes and workshops.  However, this evening, we will have priority tickets to the Gala Opening of the show.  It is the best time to see the show and enjoy the vendors as the crowds are always light on opening night.

October 30-November 2: While it will be easy to get caught up among the multitude of vendors or engaged in looking at the amazing quilts that are juried into this show, you might also wish to consider the multitude of other activities that make up the festival.  Take a close look at the workshops offered and/or the various speakers.  This is a wonderful opportunity to take a class with one or more world class teachers.  And even if you don’t want to spend a day in class, you can hear some of the teachers at lunchtime or evening lectures.  Check the festival brochure for these opportunities.

November 2:  Our final day in Houston, we will meet for breakfast together before your check out from the Hotel and transfer to the airport.  You may store your luggage at the hotel if you wish to participate in last minute shopping or workshops.

Please go to www.quilts.com at any time to get on the mailing lists for the festival schedule.  There is a slight charge for the mailed catalog, however, class catalogs are posted online at the same time the printed catalog is released.  Note:  The Festival brochure with the list of classes will not be available until mid-July, 2014.
