Highlights

Japan is a country blessed with an abundance of textile art and culture and along with its natural beauty, we predict you will be inspired by everything you see.

Step out of the traditional Japanese tourist box and join our fabulous 14-day, 3 city Japan quilt, fabric and textile tour as together we will enjoy the finest destinations in the country.

Along with fantastic sightseeing opportunities, we’ll visit the best fabric and handcraft establishments, take hands-on traditional craft workshops in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Kyoto, and find inspiration in Japan’s art and craft museums, beautiful temples, and rustic villages.

Tokyo is a haven for textile lovers, blending traditional and contemporary fabric arts. Here, we will immerse ourselves in a sashiko workshop, where we’ll learn stitching techniques passed down through generations. Our time at the Tokyo National Museum and the Japan Folk Craft Museum will reveal the historical significance of textiles in Japanese culture, as they exhibit beautiful textiles that reflect the craftsmanship of the past.

We will enjoy Nippori Textile Town with its myriad shops offering everything from traditional materials to modern prints. In addition to trying our hand at Katazome dyeing, we will visit an amazing shop that provides a vast selection of craft supplies and textiles to keep us inspired throughout this lively city.

The Yokohama World Quilt Show is one of the biggest quilt events in Asia and exhibits quilts from all over the world. We’ll see everything from classic quilts to super modern, fiber-art pieces—we will feel like we are walking through a gallery of creativity!

Nagoya will be a fun stop as we visit Arimatsu Road and try our hand at shibori tie-dyeing. This area is renowned for its centuries-old shibori tradition, a beautiful form of Japanese tie-dye. In this area you feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

Kyoto is a city of textile delights. We’ll explore the Kyoto Shibori Museum, where we will learn another type of shibori tie-dyeing We will also learn about the beautiful techniques used for hand-decorating kimonos in our workshop of Kyo Yuzen dyeing. In the Gion district, we’re looking forward to a traditional maiko tea ceremony with a geisha and the chance to wear traditional costumes. With so many experiences tied to fabric and craft, Kyoto is truly a paradise for anyone passionate about textiles.

Throught our tour we’ll enjoy custom-curated hands-on workshops in traditional Japanese folk art and have plenty of opportunities for fabric and handcraft shopping.
